The way to do this with midi is to loop your pattern, play along to it (you don't have to be recording anything), and when you're happy with at least a few parts of your takes or even a full take, open a new pattern and select TOOLS>Dump Score Log to Selected Pattern (or you can just dump it to the current pattern, but it will overwrite everything there or place the notes at the end of the roll). I know this is an old thread and the OP is probably not still following it, but I figured I'd replay to help out anyone that may come across this same issue.
